All three stones were cut by Diamonds of ALROSA division and presented as polished diamonds to the public. In summer 2017, ALROSA mined three unique fancy color diamonds within a month: intense yellow, pink and purple-pink. Previously, several unique fancy color diamonds were unearthed there. The Ebelyakh alluvial diamond deposit (operated by Almazy Anabara, subsidiary of ALROSA) is located on the Anabar River of the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia). Of course, cutters in any country will be interested in such a diamond, as it has the potential to give several high quality polished diamonds,” said Pavel Vinikhin, head of Diamonds of ALROSA cutting and polishing division.

After that, we will decide whether to give it to our manufacturers for cutting or sell it as a rough. Now, the stone is at ALROSA’s United Selling Organization being studied and evaluated by our specialists. “Such a large natural color rough diamond is a unique discovery. The diamond’s dimensions are 47x24x22 mm, and, according to preliminary estimates, it is 120-230 million years old. Additionally, the SMR plant in Yakutia will provide non-intermittent and clean power to the Kyuchus gold deposit development project in the north of Verkhoyansky District, Yakutia. This is the largest natural color rough diamond ever found in Russia. The SMR nuclear power plant construction project will create up to 800 new jobs in Ust-Yansky District. The new SMR NPP will replace coal-fired and diesel facilities in Ust-Yansky District and contribute to the reduction of up to 10,000 tons per year. SMRs can serve as a reliable and clean source of heat and electricity both for mining facilities and for local residents in remote areas located in isolated grids. SMR NPP can produce low-carbon hydrogen to be further used in various industries. The SMR project based on RITM-200 reactors features compact design, modularity, short construction period and high safety standards with the service life exceeding 60 years. I think it would be remiss of anyone who visits here during the summer to miss this festival, where everything about traditional Yakutia is on display, from food to dress to sportsmanship. This is the summer solstice festival in Yakutia. There is no doubt that SMR power plants have a big future, both in our country and abroad." Today, only the Russian Federation can offer such cutting-edge and referenced technology. An important aspect of our foreign practices is that ROSATOM always follows the principle: first we build in our own country and only then offer technology to the market. Quite recently, the world’s only floating nuclear power plant Akademik Lomonosov was put into operation and now, merely a few months later, we started the implementation of land-based SMR NPP project. The implementation of this project will strengthen ROSATOM’s leadership at the global SMR market. Four more RITM-200 reactors have already been installed at the 22220 project icebreakers that are currently under construction.Īysen Nikolayev, Head of the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia), said, "I am confident that the SMR nuclear power plant will provide impetus to the development of Yakutia’s arctic regions and industries located in Ust-Yansky District, and improve standards of living of local residents."Īlexey Likhachev, Director General of ROSATOM, noted: "We are making an important step today in terms of constructing the first, new generation land-based SMR power plant in Russia.

On 21 October 2020, the new generation Arktika icebreaker with RITM series SMRs officially joined the Russian nuclear fleet. These reactors utilize ROSATOM’s 50+ year experience in operation of small reactors at the Russian nuclear icebreaker fleet. The NPP project in Yakutia is based on RITM-200 reactors. The SMR construction in Yakutia will be completed by 2028. Earlier in 2020, field survey was completed with in-office work being underway.

The SMR construction project development follows the Agreement of Intent between Yakutia and ROSATOM signed in September 2019. The construction of the SMR power plant will nearly halve the costs of electric power in Ust-Yansky District compared to the current prices. Under the agreement the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia) confirms the off-take of 40-50 MW of SMR electricity and its readiness to assist in SMR NPP siting. On 23 December 2020, ROSATOM and the Government of the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia) signed an agreement on electric power tariff formation principles for the small modular reactor (SMR) power plant construction project with RITM-200 reactors in Ust-Kuyga, Ust-Yansky District, Russia.
